The women's XC team is coming off of a strong showing in their 3rd race of the year at Riverside Park on Friday, where they placed 9th against strong competition from around the state. The girls were led by Junior Emory Smith, who ran her 2nd-fastest time ever to place 35th, with Sophomore Addy Nesbitt next to her in 37th. This is the first time since 2012 that two Cedar Springs women have broke 20:00 in the same race in the month of September. Abby Noorman was next in her season best time, followed by Kenzie Druce and Kendall Nester. Freshman Harper Stanton and Junior Miriam Hess ran the last part of the race together, finishing close. The second race of the day, at 11:05am, was led by freshman Lylah Hasso. Claire O'Brien and Kylynn Grala followed, both placing in the top 40. Avery Woodard, Amaya Gomez, and Summer Cook all finished in the top 80. Shelly Zimmerman and Jordyn Kerrish finished close together, with only 3 seconds separating the 2 teammates. Megan Buttermore and Cyan Minnich had strong showings after not feeling well earlier in the week. The team will compete again on Wednesday at Brookside Golf Course for our first RCA Jamboree of the year, followed by our home invitational on Saturday morning.
