Coming off of Labor Day Weekend, the girls cross country team is shifting their focus to their second meet of the season this upcoming Saturday at the Bath Invitational. They used their off day on Friday morning to get in a quality team workout at Reeds Lake before enjoying a weekend of rest. Tuesday it was announced that seniors Madison Viau and Kaisa Maki were named team captains for the 2024 season. These are the first two team captains in the last 3 seasons. Coach Weiler on why she chose them: “As a coach, I look at a leading as a verb - something a person is actively doing. It’s not a position but rather a choice. The people that repeatedly make that choice and have that positive influence are then seen by their peers, etc as “leaders” because being someone who leads is a part of who they are and how they do what they do. We are lucky to have a few girls like this on our team in multiple grades. Kaisa & Maddie are our only two seniors this year but that’s not why I picked them to formally lead this young group. They are an active part of the change we want to see in the women’s program and have been very important parts of the rebuild of this team over the past 2 seasons. They’re both adored and respected by their teammates. Coachable and confident. Competitive and compassionate. I know the team is in a good position with them pushing for the best experience possible for every girl that joins and being a big part of making that experience great.”
