Varsity Boys basketball celebrated a very Happy Holidays with two wins over break. On Monday December 22, in their 4th game in 7 days, the Red Hawks hosted the Beavers from Battle Creek Harper Creek in an afternoon tilt that was competitive from the opening tip. The guests came out hot and finished the opening quarter with a 14-12 lead. The Red Hawks came to life in the second quarter with 21 points to take a 33-26 halftime lead they would not relinquish. The guests would hit some difficult shots down the stretch and some missed free throws allowed it to remain close but our home-standing Red Hawks held on for a 59-56 win. Kaiden Dreyer was a stellar 10-12 from the field and led the way with 21 points. Brayden Jacobs had 11 points, Keenen Hullinger had 10, and Conner Dines added 8 to secure the win. Ty Lawson had 8 assists and zero turnovers with several key passes to find open shooters. On Saturday January 3, the Red Hawks took on the Wolverines from Godwin Heights in the inaugural "Be Legendary" showcase at Grace Christian University. The Red Hawks started out slowly and only scored 15 points in the first half, but fortunately the defense kept them in the game to keep the score manageable at the half at 21-15. After getting down by as many as 10 in the 3rd quarter, the offense came to life and managed to send the game into overtime. Cody Greenland hit two key 3-pointers down the stretch and the defense stiffened with several key stops to secure a 52-49 victory. Keenen Hullinger led the way with 18 points including 4-4 from the FT line. Brayden Jacobs scored nine points, Cody Greenland had eight, and Conner Dines added seven. The Red Hawks will be on the road this week with game at Lowell today as RCA league play goes into full swing. Come out and support your hard working Red Hawks.
